Redenhall Deanery Churches working together

The Church of England is organised into diocese under the care and authority of a bishop. Our bishop is the Right Reverend Graham James, who is bishop of the Norwich diocese.

The diocese is divided into Parishes. Each parish is a member of a Benefice, which is cared for by a Vicar or Rector. Benefices are grouped,  for administrative purposes, into Deaneries under the supervision of a Rural Dean. The Rural Dean is usually the Rector of one of the Benefices in the Deanery. We are the Redenhall Benefice, and our Rural Dean is, currently, the Rector of Diss.

The Deanery provides a support group for the clergy in the form of a “Chapter” (That’s a group of people rather than a section of a book!)

It also provides a local forum (a synod) for the lay people in the deanery to meet together for worship, discussion, debate, and learning about current issues within the wider church.

It gives us a voice within the church by which our views can be expressed to the diocese, and so to the wider church.

It provides a means for the diocese to find out the views and opinions of the worshipping congregations, and to feed these back to the General Synod, which is the main governing body of the Church of England.
